The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) is investigating the permanent resident status of Chinese national, Yang Yin.
Mr Yang has been in the spotlight in recent weeks for being accused of manipulating 87-year old Chung Khin Chun in order to control her assets worth some S$40 million, which include a bungalow at Gerald Crescent.
The ICA probe is believed to be centred on how Mr Yang had obtained his PR status.
Mr Yang, a former tour guide, first came to Singapore in 2009 on an Employment Pass, and worked at the Young Music and Dance Studio which he had set up with Mdm Chung in the same year.
When exactly Mr Yang was given his Singapore PR status is unclear but news reports say it is believed to be after 2011.
Mr Yang is also currently being probed by the police regarding his claims to be a director of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI), a claim which the SCCCI has rejected in a statement earlier this week.
An ICA spokesperson told the media on Wednesday, “The ICA is aware of media reports on the case and is looking into the matter.”
It also warned that “individuals who provide false information in their applications for immigration facilities will be dealt with firmly under the law.”
“In addition, they will have their immigration facilities cancelled or revoked,” the ICA added.
Mr Yang is currently also embroiled in a court case brought by Mdm Chung’s niece asking the court to suspend his Lasting Power of Attorney, which enables him to control Mdm Chung’s assets, which was given to him in 2012.
Mr Yang had moved into the Gerald Crescent home on 2013 shortly after, along with his family which had come to Singapore from China.
Last Friday Mr Yang resigned his position in the grassroots organisation in Ang Mo Kio GRC where he had been active.
