From the website of Five Stars Tours Pte Ltd,
“Over the last two decades, Five Stars Tours has expanded across the island with 8 branches, more than 200 dedicated staff, and a growing customer base of more than 300,000.”
Lianhe Wanbao reports that Five Stars Tours Pte Ltd has applied for liquidation of the company. All its business operations has ceased in the 8 outlets and has affected many would be customers to purchase their trips back home.
To the understanding of the newspaper, the person in charge for the Five Stars Tours has already filed a case at the police station. The main branch of the company has also closed down the outlet. Company staff were filled with anxiety while moving in between the main outlet in Chinatown and avoided the reporter from wanbao when being approached. Many customers came and left empty handed without their tickets.
The reporter from Lianhe Wanbao tried to call the person in charge and the other 7 branches of the company but no one picked up the calls.
With about 20 more days to Lunar New Year, many of the Malaysians living in Singapore are rushing to purchase their tickets back to their country to spend the new year. Apart from this, many Singaporeans are also taking time off to go for overseas travel. With the sudden closure of Five Stars Tours, it is believed that many customers will be affected as a result of it.
Apart from the closure of the branches, the website of the Five Star Tours is down as well. (http://sg.fivestarsonline.com/)

From the cached version of the website, it does not seem that the liquidation was scheduled for since the tours were planned for the Lunar New Year. And it is uncertain if there is any refunds to be made by the company to customers who might have already purchased the tickets.

Impending S&CC hike for HDB residents, Govt to provide temporary relief

A recent report by the Straits Times highlighted comments from Lim Biow Chuan, coordinating chairman for PAP town councils, suggesting that Housing Board residents can anticipate a rise in Service and Conservancy Charges (S&CC) in the near future. S&CC, which covers expenses such as estate cleaning, landscaping, refuse collection, pest control, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical fixtures like lifts and lights, last saw a rise between $1 and $17 per month, phased over two years, in 2017. Mr Lim noted that town councils are grappling with increased cost pressures due to rising energy prices, maintenance costs, and manpower costs. Energy prices have surged by 23% between 2018 and 2023, while lift maintenance costs have risen because of higher labour and material costs. The implementation of the Progressive Wage Model to uplift low-wage workers has further contributed to increased operational costs for town councils.
