Following an event at Speakers’ Corner last Sunday to mark Yong Vui Kong’s 24th birthday, TOC has received more than 150 overseas letters – mainly from Germany, the United Kingdom, France as well as Spain – appealing to President Tony Tan to spare Vui Kong. The emails were also sent to the Istana. TOC understands that most of the letter-writers are supporters or members of Amnesty International.
The following are some of the appeals:

Your Excellency,
As a sympathizer of A.I., the international and independent organisation defending human rights all over the world,
I would like to draw your attention to the following:
It is about YOUNG VUI KONG , a brave man who on his 24 birthday as a real human right-defender appeared in a speakerscorner in Hong Lim Park In Singapore.
You know the rest of his case.
At first I would like to urge the President
· Stop the execution of Yoong Vui Kong;
· Suspend all executions and the imposition of new death sentences as a step towards total abolition of the death penalty.
· Revoke legislation establishing mandatory death sentences.
I sincery hope you will take notice of my request and I am looking forward to your reply.

Your Excellency,
As a member of Amnesty International I ask you stop the execution of Yong Vui Kong and suspend all executions and the imposition of new death sentences as a step towards total abolition of the death penalty. I also ask you revoke legislation establishing mandatory death sentences.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Respectfully,
Teresa Bessette

Your Excellency,
I am writing to you from Germany because it came to my notice that Yong Vui Kong is still at risk of execution because he was found guilty of trafficking 42 grams of heroin, in packages which he was ordered not to open. At his trial he said he was not knowing the contents. He regrets his mistake and I think he deserves a second chance.
I therefore ask you to stop the execution of Yong Vui Kong.
As death penalty is cruel and inhuman and possible mistakes cannot be corrected I would also like to ask you to suspend all executions and the imposition of new death sentences as a step towards total abolition of the death penalty.
In order to give judges the opportunity to individually find adequate punishments please revoke legislation establishing mandatory death sentences.
I hope you will consider my letter and it would releave me if you would let me know that Yong Vui Kong is not going to be put to death.
Yours sincerely,
Christoph Knüppel
