Sarah Cheng-De Winne: singer, songwriter, musician – and even photographer. The up and coming talented artist has recently released her solo album Let’s Pretend (left) and it looks (or sounds) like it is going to be a hit both locally and internationally. Sarah’s music can be described as jazz, pop, or soul rhythm and blues, and rest assured, you will be taken to a calm, serene place by the melodious tracks of this album. Her voice belies her young age and she sounds more like a mature woman reflecting on a life well-lived rather than the 22 year-old who has an illustrious life ahead of her that she is.

Her music sits right in with a sophisticated dinner or a quiet drive to nowhere – and would put any couple in the right mood to enjoy each other’s company. We particularly liked the bonus track – the remix of Maybe Forever (you can listen to the track at the end of this review) featuring the popular bass guitarist Casey Subramaniam on both guest vocals and bass guitar.

Sarah’s big break came in 2008 when she was selected from over 300 youths to star in the local hit teen musical, It’s My Life!, and since then, she has ventured heavily into the local music and theatre scene. She started performing music regularly in 2009 at Night & Day, and soon found herself appearing on various platforms such as LIVE! 2010 Singapore, Singapore Wine & Jazz Festival 2010, and NUS Arts Festival 2010, among others. Sarah continues to be involved in acting and is a member of W!LD RICE’s youth divison, young & W!LD and most recently appeared in Leow Puay Tin’s FAMILY.

And if you thought Sarah is as multi-talented as they get, well, she is also an accomplished professional photographer having had her works displayed in Tokyo as a representative of Singapore in the Month of Photography Japan 2008 event, as well as many other local exhibitions. Samples of her photography can be viewed at her personal website (www.sarahcheng-dewinne.com) whilst her music related developments can be accessed at her blog and facebook fan page.

Sarah Cheng-De Winne’s Let’s Pretend has 6 tracks and the additional bonus track in all, and is available for purchase online  (USD$9.99) at CD Baby, whilst the physical copy retails at HMV Singapore, BooksActually and The Esplanade Shop. In the meanwhile, the bonus track Maybe Forever (remix) can be downloaded for free at CD Baby until 6th October 2010 (you can take a listen below).
